Photo Recipe:
Place subject on tripod in front of bare wall. In this case a tannish colored wall. Aim flash one step off vertical, and use the built in flash bounce card, or add one to your flash if it doesn't have one built in. I shot manual, and adjusted flash down until image was properly exposed. First shot was near, second was spot on. Desaturated in software, and added a small amount of sharpening
Closure - one of the Gestalt Principles. Closure happens when an image is incomplete. When a partial image is seen people perceive the whole by filling in the missing information on their own.
