Closure - one of the Gestalt Principles.
Closure happens when an image is incomplete. When a partial image is seen people perceive the whole by filling in the missing information on their own.
Leaf and white paper. Lay leaf on paper, outside in the shade. expose in RAW to the right, and in software give it a little pop and wash out the background a little, but not completely.
