Beautiful friend.
The end.
It is no more. The tough camera that went everywhere and did everything with me. My constant and reliable photography companion, has passed on.
It shows the scars of my influence. It has proudly displayed the scratches, dents, missing pieces, and lost color. It showed the world the hot pixels it developed, and spoke to anyone who cared to ask, about how it was ready for more adventure.
It showed us all what tough meant, never complaining, never tiring. It dived in the oiceans, and flew in the sky. It braved the snow and fell from places high. It was exactly what it said it was, until the end. Tough. Waterproof. Crushproof. Freezeproof.
We'll miss you.

PHOTO RECIPE:
I placed the Olympus 1030SW into a white plastic container, and poured water onto the caemera. I used on camer flash, because it was there and I had no energy to get a strobe. I shot the on camera flash through a frosty plastic pitcher to diffuse the flash for a few shots, and some I used a white plate as a reflector for fill.
Import raw file into CS5, crop, adjust curves, etc.
The end.
Closure - one of the Gestalt Principles. Closure happens when an image is incomplete. When a partial image is seen people perceive the whole by filling in the missing information on their own.

"This" he said, "is my town."
2 shots combined, one above the other - a vertical panorama in a way. Very little other editing even to exposure. Simple handlheld P&S.
The view is across the courtyard of the El Convento Hotel in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Note the church at the top right, where Juan Ponce de León lays in death, the Cathedral of San Juan Bautista.

Paradise, lost?
Somewhere in San Juan, PR...
At first look, I didn't like this image much. The more I have looked at it, the more I like it. In fact, things that I considered faults or negatives at first, I am finding are actually postive and good aspects to the image.
Certainly, I'd like to have taken it with my good glass and Canon 40D for better image wuality, but overall the image quality isn't all that bad. Perhaps a little photo editing to give it an old anf low quality film camera look would be beneficial? Maybe....but low-fi digital cameras have their own certain special quality...

(HDR) Explorer of the Seas in Bermuda
A faked HDR from a single JPEG.
4 different HDR treatments layered in photoshop.
Taken from aboard the Caribbean Princess
She knew it would be a night to remember.
This is SOOC - Straight out of camera. No editing at all.
A nice night shot from inside the El Convento courtyard. This is about west to north west. Our rooom was on the side of the hotel shown on the left of this image.
I used the nightshot setting on my 1030SW P&S, and rested the camera on a raling.
I love the clouds and light quality here. The round windows, and placing the corner off center.

Satisfy My Soul
Here we are, somewhere over the rainbow.
Coming out of San Juan, Puerto Rico this rainbow popped up. Gorgeous. My photo may not do it justice.

You never close your eyes anymore...
..when I kiss your lips.
Some art at Eastern State Penn. This is on the wall above the cell door, inside the cell. Amazing that it survived. It is currently being very carefully restored.
Who's watching you?

Look at the Upside
A slight spin on the classic wine glass refraction shot.
Shot during the free wine tasting that our hotel, El Convento, had each night. Very enjoyable.

San Juan, Puerto Rico. From the air
Coming into Luis Munoz Marin International Airport. A quick snap out the window, of the "Walled City" - San Juan, Puerto Rico. P+S camera, so the image isn't exactly sharp...

The Way To Pray
Except it's pointing in the wrong direction.
Like a cell at Guantanamo Bay detention camp.
Straight from the camera, unedited.
Saylorsburg, PA - The Saylor's Home
I lived in this haunted house for awhile. Quite an experience...
I scanned this in a long time ago and no longer have access to the print. I did little restoration on it. Note the long exposure, shown in the movement of the trees.
This house was the home of the family for which Saylorsburg is named. Residents in the area since the revolution, they were the primary family of affluence and influence for decades. This home dates sometime around the Civil War, I think. If anyone has any history relating to the house or people in the photo please let me know!
Bird's eye view.

Canon 40D and 70-200mm f/2.8 IS II USM on tripod
Taken using a Canon G3, my first digital camera love...With a 580EX2 strobe on top.
Photo Recipe:
Place subject on tripod in front of bare wall. In this case a tannish colored wall. Aim flash one step off vertical, and use the built in flash bounce card, or add one to your flash if it doesn't have one built in. I shot manual, and adjusted flash down until image was properly exposed. First shot was near, second was spot on. Desaturated in software, and added a small amount of sharpening

Bird Poo Hitler
Some people claim it looks like an Imperial Storm Trooper. I think it looks like Hitler, from a low view like Leni Riefenstahl would shoot him.
Well, whatever it looks like, it's just bird shit on the hood of my truck.
The image is rotated 180º. I thought it was interesting, but I didn't know why. I took a quick shot of it, anf only later when I saw it on my PC screen, did I notice that it looked like something.
In a way, I like that whatever it appears to represent, is made from bird poo. It seems fitting, at least in my world.

So when were you last here?
My shots of flowers in direct sun rarely amount to much of anything, but in this case it seems to have come out pretty well. I am really liking this Canon 70-200mm F2.8 IS II lens for flowers. Previously my Canon 100mm macro was the lens for it, but I'm beginning to think the big telephoto is the ticket. Anyone have any thoughts?
