Dogwood flower and white paper. Lay flower on paper, outside in the shade. Expose in RAW to the right, and in software give it a little pop and wash out the background a little, but not completely.
Closure - one of the Gestalt Principles. Closure happens when an image is incomplete. When a partial image is seen people perceive the whole by filling in the missing information on their own.

Field of Stars "HERE WE MARK THE PRICE OF FREEDOM"
Straight from the camera. The camera was actually resting in the water for this one.
The World War II Memorial commemorates the sacrifice and celebrates the victory of "the greatest generation.
The field of 4,000 Gold Stars honors the more than 400,000 lives lost during the war. Their sacrifice can never be forsaken.

Honda Nighthawk 700SC
My 1984 Honda Nighthawk, parked at the dorms at university. Early 1990's. Still have the bike. Needs a little TLC.
Scanned from 35mm print scan from Nikon 4004 SLR. Most likely 50mm lens.
Death of the proud and productive farm
Something about the sadness of the decaying barns, against the new spring green grass and pretty blue sky with the puff of cloud that makes me like this image. The primary barn's roof has now fallen.
In the sweat of thy makers shalt thou store feed, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.

National Archive Building Rotunda
...Taken from the floor using the 1030sw on self timer. Again, very noisy...
Old documents are hard to read, especially in the low light, and with people pushing for position...
UPDATE
Of course, I didn't use flash but because of other idiots who can't seem to learn how to turn off their flash we are once again treated to an over-reacting, stubborn, and ignorant government:
Why do I say that? See here:
http://www.cymek.com/2010/absolutetyrannyphotographs/
It is often a very long wait and difficult to get to see the rotunda, where these important and historic documents are. People from around the world come here to the great freedom of America, and can't even take a silly picture like mine above.
I say that the ignorant government and the idiots that can't turn off their flash share equally in the blame. So a big "F-you" to them all.

She was always holding on to the little things.
Carrying around such a big lens as this 70-200mm F/2.8 IS II is a pretty large commitment. I thought carrying a dSLR with a normal or wide lens is a lot of weight and hassle....but not compared to a "big zoom".
Image made at Target.
Now if only my facebook and flickr accounts would link properly. The link keeps breaking, and then resists my attempts to relink!

Dirty Curves
I am so excited! I got my refurbished Canon 70-200mm f/2.8L USM IS II lens today! This is a VERY nice piece!
This is one of the first images I made through it.
Certainly this image didn't use the true power of this lens, but that will come in time. Wide open aperture and high ISO shots with IS and long shutters...oh yeah, I can't wait.

She Was Always Shy
While eveyone at the party outside mingled, laughed, and had a good time she stayed inside, all by herself.

Wear & Tear
I take a camera almost everywhere. Although I wish I could carry my dSLR all the time, that just isn't possible. More often than not I have my Olympus 1030SW tough camera.
This is the strap that was on it for a couple years now. It's the second strap I've destroyed on this camera. I went to pull it out of my pocket using the strap, and there was no resistance, and all I pulled was the strap. Yeah, this is to be expected.
I am very glad it didn't break when I was relying on it, like hanging over Hoover damn or something...
Everyone...Check your straps! Seriously...If it's frayed it may not be there for you when you need it...

Place strap on white paper, on floor. On camera strobe, pointed towards wall camera left to bounce off of wall.
